(highly practical, highly recommended) “Bringing up Boys” by James Dobson is the best resource for knowing the unique needs of pre-adolescent boys and how to raise them right. (highly recommended for anyone with boys!) “The Five Love Languages of Children” by Gary Chapman helps parents express love to their children the way the children understand love. (very practical) “Transforming Children into Spiritual Champions” by George Barnas’s is a compelling analysis of today’s generation that scientifically proves that ministering to your children is the most important ministry there is. (more descriptive and analytical) Thom S. Rainer’s “Bridger Generation” is another analysis of today’s upcoming generation and how to reach them with their unique needs. (more illustrative and practical) “Cooper Kids Adventure Series” by Frank Peretti (fiction: adventure) is an adventurous series of 8 Christian fiction books for kids about a family of explorers. It contains fictional spiritual battles that Peretti is famous for so it might be a little intense for younger kids, but exciting for kids probably 3rd grade and older. “Chronicles of Narnia” by C.S. Lewis (fiction: fantasy) is the classic Christian tale of the adventures of children in a fictional land of wonder. The series of 7 books has heavy Christian undertones and parallels many Scriptural truths. |
